Sweet & Sour Braised Cabbage

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bacon
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 1/2 cups onion (yellow/white), chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 10 cups savoury cabbage (any type, I like Taiwanese cabbage) chopped to half in slices
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp of red pepper flake
  • 1/2 cup of water (if cooked on stovetop, 1/4 if in pressure cooker)

Directions

  1. You can stove top or instant pot this, the difference is in cooking time.
  2. Cut up bacon 1 cm bits, turn Instant Pot to sauté mode (or stove to medium) and cook until brown.
  3. Add in onion and garlic, cook another 3 minutes or until onions are soft.
  4. Add Cabbage
  5. Add cider vinegar, brown sugar, salt and red pepper flake.
  6. Add water and stir.
  7. If cooking with instant pot, set to pressure cook for 7 minutes. If stovetop cooking, cook around 40-45 minutes.
